Present equations made only with emojis and the answer. Students use the answer to work backwards and figure out what number each emoji represents. You can start with one example together, then have students solve the rest in pairs or as a class to build reasoning, problem-solving, and number sense.

For Example:

Equation: 🍎 + 🐶 × ⭐ = 17

Students calculate: 2 + 5 × 3 = 2 + 15 = 17

So, 🍎 = 2, 🐶 = 5, ⭐= 3
