Number Toss
Number Toss is a fun and energetic way to get students thinking about numbers while staying active and engaged. This activity is low-prep, straightforward, and easy for teachers to run while reinforcing mental maths skills.
How It Works
Have students stand or sit in a circle. The teacher calls out a number and tosses a soft ball to one student. The student catches the ball and says a fact about the number, such as whether it is even or odd, a factor, a multiple, or part of a simple calculation. After answering correctly, the student tosses the ball to another classmate. The game continues with new numbers, keeping the pace quick to maintain energy and engagement.
For Example:
The teacher says “12” and tosses the ball to a student. The student catches it and says, “It is even and a multiple of 3.” They then toss the ball to the next student, who is given a new number, such as 7, and responds with “It is odd and a prime number.” The game continues around the circle, keeping students active and thinking quickly.
