You've been teaching long enough to know…

There are kids in your class who've spent the entire summer holidays anxious about maths.

😤 Sometimes they're the loud and disruptive kids who'll look you square in the eyes and say they hate maths.

🙄 Sometimes they're the ones who groan and roll their eyes at the start of every lesson.

😔 Sometimes they're the quiet ones who've given up before they've even begun, because they believe they're bad at maths.

But no matter how it presents on the surface, it usually comes from the same place: maths anxiety.

That's why your first week of maths activities shouldn't be about sums and algorithms. Instead it needs to focus on easing anxiety, restoring confidence and building excitement for the year of maths ahead.

That's exactly what this bundle does, step-by-step.

Maths Mega Bundle activities in the classroom

Start the year right

Here's what week one could look like

exactly how to build a positive maths culture from Monday through to Friday

MONDAY

Meet Our Mathematicians Collaborative Banner

Encourage students to start seeing themselves as mathematicians.

Every student colours and completes one piece of a 36-piece class banner (7ft 6in × 20in full size or 4ft 11in × 13in half size once assembled), then adds a self-portrait underneath to complete the display.

The way we speak about our students matters. By calling students "mathematicians" on day one, students start to shift how they see themselves.

TUESDAY

Maths All About Me Calculator Flipbook

Give students a chance to reflect on who they are as a mathematician, before the year gets going.

Students complete their own calculator flipbook, reflecting on their strengths and weaknesses in maths and setting their own goals for the year ahead.

Naming where you're starting from matters. By putting language to their strengths and struggles, students get a maths identity that isn't fixed as "good" or "bad", just a starting point they get to move on from.

WEDNESDAY

Save the Mathematicians Escape Room

Help students discover what actually makes a mathematician, before they've done any maths at all.

This maths-themed team challenge doesn't involve any maths. Groups work through 4 puzzle tasks (a hexagon jigsaw, a word search, a crossword and a picture cipher) to uncover the 4 characteristics of a successful mathematician: creative, thorough, resilient and curious. A bonus poster for each trait is included, ready to display and reinforce all year long.

What counts as being good at maths matters. By discovering that real mathematicians persevere, take risks and work as a team, students quietly redefine what it actually takes to belong in maths.

THURSDAY

Collaborative Maths Investigations

Give students their first real hands-on maths task of the week, one where there's no single right answer.

Choose from 6 investigations included in the pack. Paper Planes is one popular option: in pairs or small groups, students design and build a plane, fly it, then measure and compare how far it travelled.

How students experience their first maths task of the year matters. Because there's no single right way to build a paper plane, every student gets to experience success on their own terms, before maths starts asking for one correct answer.

FRIDAY

Maths Warm Ups

Introduce the daily warm-up routine your class will use all year.

Spin the interactive wheel to select a task, with low floor, high ceiling activities that every student can access, no matter where they're starting from.

How the first week ends matters. Every task has a way in for every student, so week one finishes on a win, the feeling you want them carrying into Monday's next maths lesson.

Every activity in this bundle has been designed intentionally, to build confidence and ease maths anxiety for the year ahead.

✓

Students who put their hand up

Even your quietest, most anxious mathematicians start volunteering answers, because getting it "wrong" doesn't feel so scary anymore.

✓

A genuinely positive maths culture

Maths lessons start to feel like something the class looks forward to, not something they brace for.

✓

Confidence that carries into every topic

Once students believe they can do maths, that mindset carries through to every topic you teach for the rest of the year.

HERE'S WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW...

Maths anxiety doesn't fix itself

Left unaddressed, it shapes how a child sees themselves as a learner, often long after they've left your classroom.

✕

Avoidance becomes a habit

Students start avoiding maths altogether, rushing through it or shutting down completely, which only widens the gap.

✕

Confidence problems become achievement problems

Maths anxiety is directly linked to lower maths achievement, regardless of a student's actual ability.

✕

It follows them

Left unaddressed, maths anxiety in primary school is strongly linked to maths avoidance and anxiety in high school and beyond.

Are you ready to build genuine maths confidence

so this can be the year your class starts maths feeling confident, instead of anxious?

Jess from The Sydney Teacher

Hi, I'm Jess

… and I watched a room full of students go from dreading maths lessons, to asking when we get to do the maths warm-up again.

Every year, I'd have students walk in already convinced they were "bad at maths" before we'd even started. That mindset is so hard to shift once it sets in, and it was making every lesson harder than it needed to be.

That's why I created this Maths Mega Bundle. It includes the activities I wish I'd had from day one: playful, collaborative and genuinely no-pressure, helping every student walk into maths lessons feeling like they belong there.
