Don't Break the Bank
It is a simple maths game that challenges students to get as close to 1000 as possible without going over. It sounds easy... until the dice start rolling!
How It Works
Display a virtual die on your interactive whiteboard and roll it nine times.
As each digit is rolled, students decide where to place it in one of three 3-digit numbers (hundreds, tens or ones). Once a digit has been written down, it can't be moved, so every decision counts!
After all nine digits have been placed, students add their three numbers together.
The goal? Get as close to 1000 as possible without going over.
• Gets students thinking strategically about place value.
• Builds estimation and mental addition skills.
• Encourages planning before making a decision.
• Every roll keeps students engaged right to the end.
• Perfect as a 5–10 minute maths warm-up with almost no preparation.
Be warned... your students will probably ask for "just one more round!" Don't Break the Bank is a simple free maths game that's always a hit and keeps everyone thinking until the very last roll.
