Elimination
Elimination game is a fast-paced, no-prep maths warm-up that instantly boosts engagement. It works particularly well with classes who enjoy competition and quick mental recall.
How It Works
Have students stand on their chairs. Ask quick maths questions and let students put their hand up if they know the answer. Choose one student to respond. If they get it right, they pick someone to sit down. If they get it wrong, they sit down themselves. Keep the game going for a few minutes or until only a few students are left standing, adjusting the questions as you go.
For Example:
For example, ask 2 × 3. A student answers 6 correctly and chooses someone to sit down. If they get it wrong, they sit down instead. Then move on to the next question.
Why It's So Good
• Fast, fun, and keeps students engaged
• Gets every student involved and thinking
• Helps warm up mental maths skills
• Allows teachers to quickly see who understands the work
• No prep required, easy to run in any lesson
Even a few minutes of the Elimination game can boost engagement and confidence, making it a maths warm-up your students will look forward to.
