Here's how it works...
STEP ONE: SORT (2 MINS)
Flashcards help each student pinpoint exactly which facts they need to practise in their current times table. Cards are double-sided: question on the front, answer on the back. Students read the question (e.g. 3 × 2), say the answer aloud (e.g. 6), then flip to check. Every card lands in one of two piles, Nailed It or Not Yet, and that day's practice targets only the Not Yet pile.
STEP TWO: PRACTISE (3 MINS)
Using the 3C method, students look at each Not Yet fact, cover the answer, copy it from memory, then compare. Three correct in a row moves a fact to Nailed It.
STEP THREE: SPRINT (1 MIN)
A 60-second timed drill has students answer as many facts from their current times table as they can, recording their score as correct answers per minute (CAPM).
STEP FOUR: TRACK (2 MINS)
Students plot their sprint score on a personal bar graph to watch their progress build over time, working toward the automaticity target of 40 correct answers per minute.
This entire routine will take no more than 10 minutes per day but it will build the multiplication fluency every other maths topic depends on.
