Number Duel
It is one of those quick, no-prep maths games that is simple to run, brings a bit of friendly competition into the room, and is a great way to build number sense and pattern recognition.
How It Works
Select two students to come to the front of the class. Announce a number category (e.g. multiples of 7, prime numbers, or factors of 24). Students take turns saying numbers that belong in that category. Each response must be correct, unique, and given quickly. If a student hesitates for too long, repeats a number, or gives an incorrect answer, they lose the round. A new challenger then steps up, and a new category is introduced for the next duel.
For Example:
The teacher announces: “Multiples of 7.”
Student 1: 7
Student 2: 14
Student 1: 21
Student 2: 28
Student 1: 35
Student 2: 42
Student 1 pauses and cannot think of the next number so Student 1 loses the duel, and a new challenger takes their place.
